Twenty-Five Days. Celebrate Black Friday by Calling Your Electors.
The clock is ticking down until the electoral college votes for President. I’ve written about the need to get rid of the electoral college and a way to do that without a Constitutional amendment in previous posts. I’ve also provided a link to a petition to electors to vote for the candidate who won the national popular vote.
The electors can vote for anyone that they want. Even in states that require electors to vote for the winner of the state’s popular vote, the consequences for casting a so-called “faithless” vote are small. Six electors have already pledged to revolt against the electoral results. So, if you’re going to spend the day shopping please remember to vote with your dollars. But if you have a little time after the Black Friday sales, today is a great to call electors.
Call your state’s electors: Politico has published the most complete list of electors that I’ve been able to find, although you’ll have to do a little research to find their contact information. Some states make this information public, but you’ll probably have to do a little digging.
Call electors in other states: This isn’t a state issue. Electors’ actions on December 19 will impact us all nationwide. So after calling your own electors (regardless of the results of your state’s popular vote) why not go ahead and call electors in states that had close races or states that have voted to sign the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact?
Twenty-five days left until the electoral college votes. Take action today!
