This Is What We're Protecting: "Hey Pipeline: Beat It!"

I'm starting a new feature here at the Public Goods blog: Frequent short posts called "This Is What We're Protecting". I don't think I need to say a whole lot about why I'm launching this on the morning of November 10, 2016 so I'll just say this: yesterday was a day to take stock, mourn, face facts, and reboot. Today is different. Today is for next steps. So let's pick up the pieces and get a move on, people!

My first This Is What We're Protecting post is personal. Here's why I'm spending my career pushing for environment and equity issues to be treated front and center when making public policy and infrastructure decisions. I've had to explain a lot of things to my son in the past few days. He's not at all pleased with the outcome of the election and thinks the electoral college is a big scam. We've also been talking about Standing Rock and how people everywhere should have the same rights protected no matter their culture, color, or gender.

Why do you do what you do? What are you acting to protect? If you have a picture or something you'd like me to post as "This Is What We're Protecting" please send them to me via twitter @PublicGoods or at liz@publicgoodsblog.org.
