Hollywood Goes Renewable?
The Los Angeles City Council is charting a path to run the city entirely on clean energy. While the city has only reached the stage of forming a research collaborative with energy experts, universities and other experts, the Council’s vote is a first step towards a 100 percent renewable Los Angeles. If this planning phase becomes the real deal Los Angeles would join several smaller U.S. cities that already serve all electric needs with renewables, including Aspen (CO), Burlington (VT), and Greensburg (KS). A recent Sierra Club report list seven other cities poised to achieve 100 percent renewable electricity by 2020: East Hampton (NY), Georgetown (TX), Grand Rapids (MI), Rochester (MN), San Diego (CA), San Jose (CA), and San Francisco (CA).
