This Is What We're Protecting: "It must be stopped."
Standing Rock and the surrounding lands were ceded to the Sioux Nation by the United States government in 1851. Native people are not protesting this land. They are not occupying this land. This is their land by treaty and by right. Native water protectors are putting their bodies in harms way to prevent the illegal construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline across the Missouri River--their source of drinking water and their sacred trust and responsibility.
